Yeah, I strip out my Paypal account when I get money in it, and just put money in before I buy something. I still agree that they're pretty shady.

I got the contact info for a really attractive and athletic redhead while I was overseas (she lives relatively close by here as well). Yeah, I think I'll do alright. Also got a call-back from one of the crappy jobs I applied for that had better pay than my current one. It's not the best and not what I went to school to do, but it is a step up...

Every time I see one of these morons doing their sideshow acts and calling it art, I just fucking cannot understand it. I mean, you want to get up on stage, take a shit in a pot and throw it at a canvas, or smear spaghetti-os over yourself, or fucking make yourself a pin cushion and gross out your audience to bilk them out of money, that's fine, do what you want, just don't fucking call it art, because it insults my parents, an illustrator and a costume designer, it insults me, a writer and illustrator, and it insults my friends, a variety of theatre people, painters, writers, etc.

I understand how these dumbasses can call what they do art from a functional standpoint, they typically live in first world areas with relatively free speech. But how the hell can they fucking personally justify it?

Why isn't it art? It's a deliberately created construct labelled as "art" with it's aesthetics designed so that human interaction with it provokes an emotional response. Is there any better definition of art?

Now admittedly, I don't understand what merely having needles in your chest is supposed to evoke, since with nipple or ear piercings being pretty standard just having piercings with ribbons is pretty weaksauce.

The biggest difference is the amount of time and work spent planning and creating the art. Once someone labels it as art then its only not art if everyone looks at it and shrugs before ignoring it.

Honestly, it's the content that causes me to determine the second is not art. It is, literally, throwing shit at a fan, with no actual point, at least as far as I can discern. In the end, art is subjective, and the best you can do is get some kind of consensus. And I'm pretty sure I can get more people to say my drawings are art than she could get to call her throwing shit at a fan art, unless she has untold millions with which to bribe them.

There are a lot of people who don't consider "illustration" to be "art". I could probably get more people to say that both your art and her art aren't art than either of you could get to say otherwise, but that wouldn't make it true.

I don't consider throwing shit at a fan art because it lacks: any requirement of skill, any deliberate attempt at a specific result(i.e. essentially random and without purpose), any message conveyed or response garnered, any sort of structure to the performance or an observable end product that isn't a fan randomly covered in shit, which requires no artistry to create, and in fact a fan deliberately smeared with shit could more be considered art than this. If literally anyone with a moderately functional body can do such a thing and no emotional response or message is attempted to be brought out then I don't believe it should be considered art. As broad a term as it is, it should have some exclusionary definition, if only to allow actual artists to not have to be associated with these kinds of shitheads.

It's not fucking art unless a baby smearing its own excrement wherever it can reach is art, and even that displays more artistic self expression than the shitfan video.

Grr. Called back for the interview. They said that they don't care if I was out of the country, they toss out applications that don't call back the same week. They told me to re-apply. Maybe there's still an opening, but that's a true pisser.

If that's true, then ballet and opera definitely aren't performance art since they are both non-functional (aside from providing "entertainment") and abstract (in that they use a medium to convey meanings and interpretations).

I think my Sculpture class had a good definition for the obligatory "What is art?" discussion: if you have to ask, then sure.

I don't agree that throwing poop at a fan is worthwhile in any sense though.
